I’ve gotta admit, I was not prepared for the amount of “gear” that would be required for the trip.
For the past couple of weeks we have been gathering everything that we’ll need.
Base layers, trousers, tops, jackets, hats, gloves of varying weights and properties. Temperatures and conditions vary greatly from bottom to top, so layering is crucial.
The bottoms & tops were to be expected but the smaller stuff – I’d never thought of.
“Starters & Stoppers” – the food on the trail is pretty rudimentary and the levels of hygiene suspect, so there is no doubt that we will require some assistance to either GO or STOP.
Jacks Roll – and lots of it (see above).
Matches – to burn the Jacks roll.
A glow in the dark Nalgene bottle – so we don’t have to leave the hut or tent in the middle of the night to go have a wee. I’ll let you work that one out for yourselves. We’ve both gone for the wide mouth version (brag).
Water purification tablets as the water in the rivers is polluted by the sewage of the villages higher up the mountain (nice..)
And most importantly, gifts for the children of the villages we pass through.
13 days to go…….
